Stock futures rise as investors look to extend rally fueled by Fed’s rate cut outlook

U.S. stock futures are on the rise as investors anticipate extending the recent rally, buoyed by the Federal Reserve's indication of potential interest rate cuts later this year. Futures linked to major indices showed modest gains: Dow Jones Industrial Average futures edged up 0.1%, S&P 500 futures increased by 0.2%, and Nasdaq 100 futures advanced 0.3%.

This optimism follows the Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) decision to maintain the federal funds rate within the 4.25% to 4.50% range. Notably, the Fed's projections still include two rate cuts in 2025, reflecting a response to evolving economic conditions.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell acknowledged heightened uncertainty, particularly concerning trade policies and their potential impact on inflation and economic growth. The Fed now forecasts inflation to rise to 2.7% by the end of 2025, up from the previous estimate of 2.5%, and has adjusted the U.S. GDP growth projection for 2025 down to 1.7% from 2.1% .

In reaction to the Fed's announcements, the stock market experienced a notable rally. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.92%, closing at 41,964.63, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.08% and 1.41%, respectively.

Investors are now focusing on upcoming economic data releases and corporate earnings reports to gauge the trajectory of the economy and the potential timing of the anticipated rate cuts. The Fed emphasized its commitment to monitoring incoming data to inform its monetary policy decisions, aiming to balance the goals of maximum employment and price stability.

As the market digests these developments, the positive momentum in stock futures suggests a continuation of the rally, underpinned by expectations of a more accommodative monetary policy stance in the near future.
