StubHub files for IPO as companies start lining up to go public

Online ticketing platform StubHub has filed for an initial public offering (IPO), aiming to list its shares on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "STUB". The company reported a 29.5% revenue increase in 2024, reaching $1.77 billion compared to $1.37 billion in 2023. However, despite this growth, StubHub experienced a net loss of $2.8 million in 2024, contrasting with a profit of $405.2 million the previous year, primarily due to increased expenses.

Founded in 2000, StubHub has undergone several ownership changes: it was acquired by eBay in 2007 for $310 million and later sold to viagogo in 2020 for $4.05 billion. Major stakeholders now include Madrone Capital Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners. The IPO, managed by J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs, seeks to raise funds to repay debt and for general corporate purposes.

StubHub's filing coincides with a resurgence in IPO activity, particularly among tech companies. Notably, cloud computing firm CoreWeave has filed for an IPO, aiming to raise $4 billion at a valuation exceeding $35 billion. Similarly, buy-now-pay-later company Klarna is pursuing a U.S. listing, targeting a valuation around $15 billion.

These developments suggest a potential revival in the IPO market, which has been subdued in recent years. Investors are cautiously optimistic, monitoring how these offerings perform amid ongoing market volatility.
